Austin, Texas is one of my favorite US cities. With great food, music and overall vibe, I go there a couple times a year to visit friends. Historically they’ve never have non-stop service to Europe, but starting in March 2014, British Airways will be operating 5 day a week service to London Heathrow using their brand new 787 aircraft.

British Airways offers three classes of service on the 787- Business, Premium Economy and Economy. One-way redemption costs AUS-LHR in Avios are 25,000 for economy, 37,500 for Premium Economy and 50,000 for business class. If you travel non-stop roundtrip to London, expect fees to be ~$750 for Economy and Premium Economy and a whopping $1,050 for business class. American charges 30,000 miles each way for economy redemptions (20,000 miles off-peak October 15- April 15) and 50,000 miles for business class with similar fees, though a little bit lower.

The flight leaves Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at 6:55pm from Austin and arrives Heathrow at 10:00am. Ex-London it leaves Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday at 11:55am and arrives at 4:00pm.
I checked for award availability, but it doesn’t appear to be loaded yet.
Overall, I’m excited about this new route and curious to see which niche routes other airlines will use the 787 to service.
