TSA PreCheck just keeps getting bigger and better. Right now, the expedited airport security program is in 40 airports nationwide, but the TSA announced that it would soon be expanding to 60 more by the end of 2013 for a total of 100 airports, and that existing TSA PreCheck locations would be getting additional lanes. So hopefully a lot more of us are going to be getting through airport security a lot faster (see the list of participating airports below).

Personally, I find the Trusted Traveler programs including TSA PreCheck and Global Entry to be huge time savers when traveling, and the fact that the TSA added the ability to use PreCheck lines even on certain international itineraries over the summer saves me even more time now.

The program currently partners with Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Hawaiian Airlines, United Airlines, US Airways and Virgin America, and JetBlue and Southwest are expected to begin participating when operationally ready.

I think more and more travelers will be applying for Trusted Traveler programs including Global Entry and TSA PreCheck and using the TSA PreCheck lines to save time (and rightly so), so I’m glad to see the program expanding to so many more airports and adding more capacity so we can all get through security faster and more comfortably.

Although TSA PreCheck announced that you could start applying for it specifically (rather than having to go through another Trusted Traveler program) back in July for an $85 application fee, Global Entry costs just $100 to apply and gets you access to expedited customs and immigrations lines as well, plus many credit cards will refund the fee. For instance, the Amex Platinum, Mercedes-Benz Platinum and Business Platinum cards all credit the fee back to you as a statement credit for the primary card as well as additional cardholders. If you have the new Citi Prestige card, you can also get the fee refunded, and United Global Services, Premier 1K and Platinum members get reimbursed by United.
