Earlier today, the IHG Rewards Club Connect online forum released the next set of PointBreaks hotel properties, and the list will go live later on November 1 on the official PointBreaks page where you will be able to book discounted award nights for just 5,000 points a night for stays through January 31, 2013.

IHG Rewards Club PointBreaks are reduced-level award redemptions at IHG  hotels (Intercontinental, Crowne Plaza, Indigo, Holiday Inn, etc.) that require just 5,000 Priority Club points for a free night and that change every 2 months. Depending on the hotel at which you redeem them, 5,000 points can be a pretty great value, especially for Intercontinental properties, which normally require between 30,000-50,000 points, and Hotel Indigos and Crowne Plazas, which usually require 20,000-50,000 points depending on their category. For instance, last year I actually ended up using a PointBreaks rate at the Intercontinental Phnom Penh (which is also on the current list) so I was able to redeem 5,000 points instead of paying the $150 nightly rate, wringing about 3 cents of value per point.

The list of PointBreak properties is usually pretty random, and there tend to be a lot more lower-end properties, but this time around there are actually quite a few exciting choices including many Intercontinentals and Crowne Plazas. Some of the more interesting options include:

InterContinental Resort Tahiti
InterContinental Johannesburg Sandton Towers
Crowne Plaza Muscat (Oman)
InterContinental Shanghai Rujin
Crowne Plaza Prague
Hotel Indigo College Park (GA)
Crowne Plaza Panama
Crowne Plaza Acapulco

Among dozens of others. While the list of US properties is pretty drab, there will be 143 of them, so at least you should have a lot of choices if you’re looking to burn some points.

The Intercontinental Tahiti is one of the PointBreaks properties this round.

If you need IHG Rewards Club points quickly, they transfer 1:1 from Chase Ultimate Rewards (note: transfers usually take 1-2 business days) if you have the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Ink Bold or Ink Plus cards. The IHG Rewards Club Select Credit Card is also currently offering a sign-up bonus of 60,000 points when you spend $1,000 in the first 3 months. That would be enough for 12 PointBreaks nights.

Or simply buy them via Priority Club directly for .7 cents a point using the cash & points method described in this post (#7), making 5,000 points worth just $35.
