Sin City is on fire through the end of summer and the best way to cool down is at one of its legendary pool parties. Assistant Editor Melanie Wynne scopes out the best parties and hottest headliners over Labor Day Weekend and beyond.

It’s been a big year for Vegas for those who love points with several new partnerships, like Caesars/Starwood Preferred Guest and Hyatt/M life/MGM Resorts. Vegas’ McCarran International Airport was even the first to get the US American Express Centurion Lounge. And if you want to know how to make your points stretch in Vegas, check out this story on points partnerships.

We’ve rounded up the hottest Las Vegas pool parties to hit from now until Labor Day – and beyond. Think splashy soirees with bass-thumping beats, cocktails priced to impress and the hottest DJs on the planet. These poolside clubs attract large crowds of well-toned, swimsuit-clad revelers, and their velvet-rope door policies are notoriously tough. Unless you plan to arrive early or know a promoter who can get you (and for extra insurance, your cutest girlfriends) in, it’s wise to buy tickets online in advance, splurge on a table or bottle service, or for an all-out VIP experience, reserve a private cabana.

Here’s where to get  your swim and your groove on in Vegas this Labor Day Weekend:

Encore Beach Club at the Wynn

Known for excellent service and a stellar lineup of EDM talent (superstar DJ David Guetta is a regular), this hotspot features a three-tiered network of pools. Reserving a VIP bungalow here is a little like having your own poolside apartment with your own bikini-clad server. On two levels, the 26 private cabanas still offer luxury, with spray-mist systems, ceiling fans and back balconies with views of the Vegas Strip. Around the pool you’ll find 12 pillow-strewn day beds, and set right in the water, 14 white-vinyl-padded lounges called “lily pads.” A circular dance station with three poles and waterfall rim rises from the center of one of the pools, and while the DJ booth is set a bit outside the action, speakers are spread throughout the club, enabling clear sound everywhere. The grill offers substantial appetizers like mahi mahi soft tacos, and drinks (served by the glass or pitcher) include the Cocolicious, a blend of coconut vodka, Hennessy Black and rock candy, topped with coconut water and shredded coconut.

Marquee Day Club at The Cosmopolitan

Marquee Dayclub
Marquee Day Club at The Cosmopolitan

Entrance to Marquee requires a mirrored elevator ride to the 17th floor and a few steps to the rooftop, yielding a panoramic view of the Vegas Strip. The cafe serves everything from frozen yogurt to wood-fired pizza, and the bar whips up some mean frozen cocktails, as well as the enormous, multi-booze Fish Bowl. In one small pool there’s a semicircular waterfall, and right in the water at the shallow end, a collection of daybeds with see-through curtains. The 18 dark-wood cabanas are fluffed with fabrics in navy, coral and white, and each one features two wicker loveseats and a flat-screen TV, as well as a private infinity hot tub out front. The day’s musical entertainment transitions from mellow progressive house to more popular, speaker-splitting tunes by evening, steadily stirring the crowd to a fever pitch.

The MGM Grand's Wet Republic
The MGM Grand’s Wet Republic

Tucked away beside the MGM Grand’s conference center by the resort’s public pool area, this club caters to a young, affluent crowd, with Hollywood celebrities for a little added excitement. Sprawling across more than 53,000 square feet, it features an “ultra pool” formed by two saltwater pools, both rimmed by sculptured hedges and chaise lounges. Daybeds sport brightly colored pillows, and if you’re looking for privacy, choose from a scattering of security-guarded cabanas and six new VIP bungalows, the latter featuring plush furniture, HDTVs and misting fans, all paired with three private plunge pools. There are also newly installed restrooms, showers and lockers, as well as an extended shaded area. The open-air, marble-topped bar serves frozen drinks and cocktails by the glass or pitcher, including a selection of under-150-calorie “skinny cocktails” with names like the Skinny Dip and the Beach Body. Snacks range from hummus to soft tacos, and heartier sandwiches are available for those who work up an appetite from pool dancing. There’s a VIP table directly behind the DJ booth, which features a dazzling array of  LED displays and special effects to accompany some of the biggest names in electronic dance music.

Rehab at the Hard Rock Hotel Las Vegas

Rehab at Vegas' Hard Rock Hotel
Rehab at Vegas’ Hard Rock Hotel

Open since 2003 and the setting for three seasons of TruTV’s “Rehab: Party at the Hard Rock Hotel,” this popular club has capacity for 3,000 and is renowned for its rowdy crowds. Straying from the EDM playlists found at several other area pool clubs, DJs here spin a mix of mostly pop, hip-hop and Top 40, with big names taking over the decks on Saturdays and Sundays. In the main pool, the in-water dancing starts in earnest by 1 p.m., while separate pools offer a water slide and swim-up blackjack tables, as well as a faux-beach area and a “river” running from pool to pool. Multiple levels of cabanas offer different levels of seclusion, and lounge chairs and banquettes are available for those who want a little more sun with their festivities. Drinks at the fancifully tropical bar are sweet and strong, and come with a signature cup and a refill. The cover price here gives you access to the hotel’s Nirvana and Breathe pools where you can take a relatively quiet break from the party scene.

Tao Beach at The Venetian

Tao Beach at The Venetian
Tao Beach at The Venetian

With an almost kitschy Asian theme and a slew of bamboo, this 18,000-square-foot pool club may make you (and the celebrities who flock here) forget you’re in the Nevada desert. A 20-foot-tall Buddha appears to float above an infinity pool filled with Koi fish. One of the most popular cocktails is the rum, pineapple and coconut water Pineapple Express, and the bistro menu tips a nod to the cuisines of China, Japan and Thailand. For those who want to spend a little more time outside of the pools, summer 2014 has seen the debut of Sunday brunch service. The 12 luxury cabanas each have air-conditioning, flat-screen TVs, gaming consoles, DVD players, WiFi and a minibar, as well as the option of having masseuses rub you down mid-party. The usual soundtrack here is top 40 and hip-hop, but the weekends are all electronic, all the time. Note that topless bathing for women is only allowed Monday-Thursday, so over Labor Day Weekend, ladies, be sure to keep your attire PG.

The glamorous lower level features 35-foot palm trees around two large main pools, each with central wet decks and a combined 40 daybeds, as well as 15 bungalows that each have their own pools, allowing you to splash aside from the considerable crowds. The mezzanine level has a third, private pool rimmed by 15 cabanas, each with its own shower and restroom. For maximum effect, the elevated outdoor DJ booth is set beneath a dramatic archway surrounded by billowing curtains and LED displays. Liquid at Aria

The playful, inflatable mayhem at Aria's Liquid pool lounge
The playful, inflatable mayhem at Aria’s Liquid pool lounge

All but hidden behind the Aria’s three public pools, this modern tropical retreat has three pools of its own rimmed by 34 chaise lounges and 28 day beds, all wicker and custom-designed for the club, and all offering clear views of the DJ booth. There are also eight private cabanas, each equipped with a 40” flat-screen TV, a mini-fridge and two robes. Aside from bottle service that hovers in the $400+ range, the bar specializes in mojitos, frozen drinks and sangrias, and the poolside restaurant serves appetizers and lighter fare like salads and sandwiches, and even a breakfast burrito. (The club does open in the morning, after all.) With room for 800 people, Liquid’s 16,000-square-foot space is smaller than most Vegas pool clubs, but as a result it feels a bit more intimate.
