Hilton and Delta just launched a promotion similar to the one they had last year, offering 250 Medallion® Qualifying Miles per stay of two nights or more and double miles between October 6, 2014 and December 20, 2014, up to a maximum of 10,000 MQMs when you select Delta as your Hilton Honors Double Dip partner. These MQMs are in addition to the 10 Hilton points per dollar spent plus the regular SkyMiles that you earn when you select Delta as a double dip partner.

While 250 Medallion Qualifying Miles isn’t going to get you to elite status on its own very soon (since you also need to reach Delta’s revenue requirements), these extra MQMs may be a lifesaver to those who are close to hitting an elite level, but don’t have enough flights planned or credit card spending to hit the threshold.

If you find yourself short just a few MQMs this year and stay with Hilton anyway, then this is an easy way to earn them without flying or making a mileage run. Since Delta offers rollover MQMs, they generally do not grant you status if you haven’t earned it outright, meaning even if you’re just a few miles short of the desired Medallion level, they won’t boost you up as a courtesy.

If you’re more than just a few hundred MQMs short this year for Medallion status, you may want to consider looking at their co-branded credit cards such as the Delta Reserve® Credit Card from American Express, which offers 10,000 Medallion Qualifying Miles and 40,000 bonus miles after spending $3,000 within the first three months, 15,000 more MQMs if you spend $30,000 within the calendar year, and an additional 15,000 MQMs if you spend $60,000 within a calendar year. The Platinum Delta SkyMiles Credit Card from American Express offers 5,000 MQMs after spending $1,000 within 90 days, 10,000 MQMs after spending $25,000 in a calendar year, and another 10,000 MQMs for spending $50,000, for a potential total of 25,000 MQMs.
