Hotel Review: Hyatt Olive 8 Seattle- Governor Suite

TPG Content and Community Manager Ryan Gaines was recently in Seattle for the weekend, and decided to stay at the Hyatt Olive 8. Here’s his review of the property. 

Over the last few months, I’ve been in the midst of trying to complete the Hyatt Diamond Challenge, which requires staying 12 nights in 60 days, and only needed two more nights to complete it, so I decided to head to Seattle for the weekend. My choices were either the Grand Hyatt Seattle or the Hyatt Olive 8, but after hearing great reviews from friends of the Olive 8 property, I decided to stay here. The hotel has 346 guest rooms and 13 suites and is located on the corner of Olive and 8th, hence the name.

Check-in and First Impressions

I arrived in the evening around 8pm in from New York, and made my way from the airport to the hotel which took about 25 minutes via a taxi. Since this was my final stay in the Hyatt Diamond Challenge, I decided to use a Hyatt Diamond Suite upgrade at booking, and was confirmed into a Luxury King Suite at booking. However, when I checked in, I was pleased to learn that due to their occupancy I was being upgraded further into their Governor Suite.

The Suite

My upgrade put me on the top floor of the hotel, so I was excited to check out the suite. As I walked in, I noticed that the 1,300 square foot Governor Suite had a kitchen area with a wet bar, refrigerator, microwave, and some bar stools. Continuing onwards, there was a spacious seating area with a few sofas and chairs as well as a fully functional fireplace. One thing to point out is that the one of the sofas is a pull-out, so if you wanted to have some people stay over or if you’re traveling with your family, the suite can provide some additional sleeping areas.

Making my way into the next room of the suite, I found myself in the office, which was equipped with a 21 inch iMac computer on an oversized desk. Since I had my laptop with me for this stay, I didn’t use the computer, but I could see how it could be nice if you weren’t traveling with your computer.

The bedroom area of the suite featured a comfortable king sized Hyatt Grand Bed and a sitting chair in the corner. The suite also had all the modern amenities like an iHome docking station, flat screen television, and plenty of power outlets for charging devices.

The master bathroom featured a double vanity, soaking tub, separate shower, and a toilet in a separate room.

Amenities and Dining

Located on the third floor of the hotel is the hotel’s gym and spa which hotel guests have access to. The hotel features a lap swimming pool and hot tub, as well as spacious locker rooms with a steam room and a sauna. The hotel’s gym is equipped with tons of cardio equipment as well as weights, making it one of the most expansive hotel gyms that I’ve been at.

One of the reasons the facilities are so nice at the property is that the top floors of the hotel are residential and the residents share the pool and gym with the hotel guests, so they decided to go all out.

The main dining options at the hotel is Urbane which serves breakfast from 6:30 – 11a.m during the week and brunch from  6:30a.m. – 2:30p.m on Saturday and Sundays. As a Hyatt Diamond member, I was informed that I could order up to $106 worth of food (which comes out to breakfast for four people at $26.50 each).

As I was staying there on for the weekend, the restaurant was serving brunch both mornings which was fantastic. I didn’t want my breakfast benefit to go to waste, so I invited our editor Peter Rothbart to join me for breakfast one morning. 

He opted for the dungeness crab benedict, and I had a vegetable omelette, which both were fantastic. We also had a side of the poutine which I would highly recommend.

Overall Impression

I was really pleased with the Hyatt Olive 8 and would definitely stay at the hotel again. I thought the Hyatt Diamond treatment here was exceptional with regards to the suite upgrade I was given as well as the generous breakfast benefit of over $100 per day for Diamond members.

Another reason that made this stay so exciting is that I’ve now officially completed the Hyatt Diamond Challenge, which will grant me Diamond status through February 2016. I was very lucky to sign-up for the challenge when I did, since they’ve currently discontinued the challenge, though there are rumors that they will be bringing back a less lucrative challenge.

The Hyatt Olive 8 is a Category 4 property meaning free nights start at 15,000 points or if you were to use Points + Cash, it was 7,500 plus $100 per night.
