Uber is one of my all-time favorite travel apps because it allows you to hail private cars and taxis directly from your smartphone without having to wait out on the street. It’s easy to locate nearby vehicles, it gives you the option to choose between low-cost UberX cars and SUV’s when riding with a group, the vehicles are kept to a high standard of cleanliness, and drivers are generally very courteous.
If you haven’t joined Uber yet, you can sign up here to get your first ride up to $20 free.
It turns out that Uber is starting a food delivery service in the Los Angeles area, where you can order dinner right from your Uber app and have it delivered to you.
Here are the details from the email:
Not sure what to do for dinner this week? With uberFRESH, you can now get the best dishes from STK, The Counter, and other great local restaurants in under 10 minutes.
uberFRESH delivers dinner on weekdays between 5:30 PM – 8:00 PM. Check out this week’s menu below.

It will be interesting to see if Uber’s new food devliery service takes off and if this will be expanded to other areas. Right now, they are only offering extremely limited meals like one item from each restaurant, so don’t expect to be able to order off the full menu.
For their food delivery service, they are charging a flat $3 delivery fee right now. This could be an interesting option if you’re staying in LA and would normally order room service, you can now look to Uber for food. Some other food delivery services that you may want to consider are Seamless, GrubHub, and delivery.com which all offer full menus of the restaurants on there and don’t usually charge
This isn’t the first time that Uber has offered other services besides transportation. Earlier this year, they were offering free flu shots, as well as their UberChopper helicopter service last summer.
As a reminder, Uber is offering a free ride (up to $20) for new users (sign-up link). Note: I get a free ride if you sign-up with my link, so thanks in advance if you use my link!
