Last week, we reported that Iceland’s low-cost carrier WOW Air is launching service from to Reykjavik from Boston (BOS) and Baltimore (BWI) later this year, with fares for $99 each way. The service from Baltimore was originally going to be merely seasonal, but as a response to huge demand they’ve just announced that they’ll be flying the route year-round!
WOW Air’s year-round, round-trip service at BWI will now begin May 8, 2015 ( rather than June 4, the original start date for the formerly seasonal service). The BWI service and will fly four days a week from May 8-June 3, and then extend to five days a week thereafter. The $99 one-way fares to Iceland that made headlines last fall will continue with this expanded service.
Last week, WOW was offering $99 fares from BWI to Reykjavik’s Keflavik Airport (KEF), and while most of them are gone, there are still a few days in late May with availability at this price.
At present, the WOW Air schedule is only available for booking through October 2015, but as they continue to load their schedule further into the year, be on the look-out for more $99 fares. We’ll be sure to report back if we see any more of these amazing deals!
While WOW Air may not be a part of a major alliance and these cheap flights won’t help towards any major elite status, you can still bank extra credit card points by using a card that maximizes airfare purchases, like 3x on airfare with the American Express Premier Rewards Gold or 2x on the Chase Sapphire Preferred. Check out this post for more on maximizing airfare purchases.
I spent an awesome five days in Iceland last year, and I hope you’ll be able to do the same. If you’re able to score one of these tickets, please share the good news and your travel plans in the comments below!
