Per this Flyertalk thread, there appears to be some great summer deals on flights to London starting at around $700 round-trip. It appears that these fares seem to be United-centric fares from American Airlines hubs like Miami and Dallas/Ft. Forth. It will be interesting to see if American decides to fire back with cheap fares from some of United’s hubs.
The best way to quickly search for these available fares is to use the ITA Matrix calendar search, and play around with the cities and dates you want to go. I would recommend choosing the option to see the calendar of lowest fares when searching.
Here are a few of the flight deals I was able to find:
Dallas/Ft. Worth- London for $705 r/t on United
Miami-London for $708 r/t on United
Alternatively, if you wanted to save some cash and redeem United miles, even for a one-way redemption, you could use 30,000 miles for a one-way flight from the US to Europe on a Saver Award.
As a reminder, chase has relaunched the United MileagePlus Explorer Business card, with a sign-up bonus of 50,000 miles after you spend $3,000 in the first three months of account opening. Those 50,000 miles would be more than enough for a one-way flight to Europe, and would almost get you a round-trip!
If you’re looking to earn even more miles, then be sure to use a credit card that maximizes airfare purchases, like 3x on airfare with the American Express Premier Rewards Gold or 2x on the Chase Sapphire Preferred. Check out this post for more on maximizing airfare purchases.
