Mother’s Day is coming up this year on Sunday, May 10, and there are many shopping portals out there that offer bonuses for purchases of flowers, candy, jewelry and other gifts. If you plan on getting your mother (or grandmother!) something online, make sure you do it through a portal so you can maximize your points and miles earnings.

About online shopping portals

Many of the major airline and hotel programs (as well as Chase Ultimate Rewards) have online shopping portals, which are sites that offer loyalty program members multiple points or miles per dollar spent with retail partners. To earn those bonuses, you must register your loyalty account (e.g., frequent flyer, hotel or credit card) with the online shopping portal. When you click through to a retailer on the portal, it puts a cookie on your computer that tracks your purchase and earns you bonus points or miles. Pretty simple!

Shopping portals are particularly lucrative for Mother’s Day shopping, because florists and other gift-oriented retailers tend to offer particularly strong bonuses, including some limited-time deals that earn over 30 points or miles per dollar.

Another great aspect of shopping portals is that you can use pretty much any credit card you want to make the purchase, and you’ll still earn points or miles on your card as well! For example, you could make a purchase through the American Airlines AAdvantage eShopping portal, but you don’t have to use a co-branded card like the Citi / AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard. Instead, you could use your Gold Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card from American Express to earn both AAdvantage miles (from the shopping portal) and SkyMiles from your credit card.

Here are links to the major online shopping portals: points and miles shown on EV Rewards. However, its not always s

Choosing the best portal

Before shopping, I always check EVReward, which tells you the bonuses offered through each shopping portal for a given retailer. For example, the image above shows bonuses for shopping at, including 30 miles per dollar spent through AAdvantage eShopping. EVReward generally has an accurate picture of the bonuses being offered; however, it’s not always complete or updated, so if you don’t see the offer you want, it’s worth double checking your preferred portal first before buying through another.

For Mother’s Day, below I’ve listed three major gift distributors that are offering some of the best bonuses, and further down you’ll find some individual portals and bonuses for more specific vendors like jewelers, florists, and more.
