Innovative startups have “disrupted” the travel industry in many ways over the past twenty years. From Expedia and Orbitz to ZipCar, Uber, various sailboat rental apps and subscription-based airline SurfAir, industry-bucking companies are usually good news for travelers looking to save some time and/or cash.
Silvercar is one such disruptor, and although our experiences have been hit-or-miss, it’s hardy to deny the service’s appeal. For travelers in search of luxury rental cars and on-demand service, Silvercar’s Audi-only, app-centric car rental service may be the solution. Users input their contact and billing information into the Silvercar website or app and make their reservation in a few simple steps. You can earn a $25 Silvercar credit when you sign up with “thepointsguy” referral code.
Silvercar locations include Austin (AUS), Chicago (ORD), Dallas (DFW and DAL), Denver (DEN), Fort Lauderdale (FLL), Los Angeles (LAX), Miami (MIA), Phoenix (PHX), San Francisco (SFO) — and, as just announced, New York City. But with this new launch, there’s a twist!
Unlike in the other cities, where the service is targeted toward people flying in and out, in New York the offer is geared toward New Yorkers, and it’s available for a limited time only. In partnership with Chelsea Hotels, and running from July 1 through Labor Day, the pick-up/drop-off location is at the McCarren Hotel in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
It’s an ingenious idea, and will help gain brand recognition among New Yorkers who travel to other Silvercar cities. Hopefully the limited-time offer will be popular enough that the company makes it a permanent service for people looking to get out of the city — or even to use for running errands for the day!
