On a recent trip to Bermuda, TPG Contributor Sarah Silbert learned that all taxis aren’t created equal. Exhibit A: a van that’s been decked out in Burberry’s signature tartan pattern by Vaughn Joseph, owner of the island’s Prestige Transport. Hop in for a virtual ride in this fabulously stylish vehicle.
When my boyfriend and I reached the head of the taxi line at Bermuda’s L.F. Wade International Airport (BDA), Vaughn’s magical Burberry van just happened to be the next open cab, and it was our good luck to hop in for a ride to The Reefs hotel.
We were lucky in more ways than one, though, as Vaughn chauffeurs more high-profile guests around the island; on the rainy, quiet weekend we chose for our quick Bermuda jaunt, business was a bit slower than usual.
The Burberry taxi definitely commits to the theme — even the steering wheel and Vaughn’s iPad cover sport the tartan print. Beyond that, Vaughn’s jacket and polo shirt even have the same matching pattern. Some swanky blue interior lighting rounds out the luxe vibe.
Apart from the decorative details, Vaughn offers Wi-Fi access and accepts all major credit cards. If you do choose to pay with a credit card, one with no foreign transaction fees — such as the Chase Sapphire Preferred and the American Express® Gold Card card — is your best bet.
Rates from the airport range from $50-100, depending on the distance to your accommodations. You can also book tours of the island in the cab, which cost $60 per hour for up to four passengers and $80 an hour for four to six people. As a special offer for TPG readers, Vaughn’s offering 10% off rides — simply mention The Points Guy when you book. Email him at email@example.com to arrange a ride.
