Yesterday, United moved all of its p.s. Premium Service transcontinental flights from JFK to Newark, and now the airline’s trying to drum up excitement among certain passengers with a targeted promotion. I’ve flown in paid BusinessFirst a couple times within the past year and didn’t receive the bonus offer, however TPG Assistant Editor Matt Zuzolo, who hasn’t flown in paid United BusinessFirst yet, received the following offer this morning:
All three offers are potentially lucrative, depending on what you’re after. If you need more premier-qualifying miles, getting 3,500 for each business segment or 1,500 for each (non-discounted) economy segment will help out quite a bit, even if you have enough PQMs for 2015 (note that the promo runs through February 2016). The regional upgrades, meanwhile, can also be quite valuable, especially since you can apply them to even the cheapest coach fares.
Finally, if you don’t need PQMs or RPUs, you can opt for redeemable miles. BusinessFirst fares between Newark and Los Angeles or San Francisco generally run about $1,200 round-trip when you book far in advance. TPG values United miles at 1.5 cents each, so you’d be getting an extra $150 in value with a paid round-trip business flight as part of this promotion, which could provide an incentive to book business class over coach.
You need to register by February 15, 2016 if you’d like to take advantage, and you can fly between now and February 29, 2016. Note that you must register before booking your flight. Your bonus pick should post to your account within eight weeks after your flight. You can earn a maximum of 100,000 award miles or 10 regional upgrades, or 35,000 PQMs each year (in 2015 and again in 2016) as part of this promo. You’ll need to have received an email from United to sign up, so check your inbox!
