Airfare deals are typically only available on limited dates. We recommend that you use Google Flights to find dates to fly, then book through an online travel agency such as Orbitz, which allows you to cancel flights without penalty by 11pm Eastern Time within one day of booking. Remember: Fares may disappear quickly, so book right away and take advantage of Orbitz’s courtesy cancellation if you’re unable to travel.

Star Alliance member Copa Airlines is offering fantastic fares from Los Angeles, Miami and New York. Most exciting is the airline’s one-stop flight from Los Angeles to Rio de Janeiro — 12,600 miles of round-trip flying for just $391. Or, you can fly via Panama to Montevideo, Uruguay for just $397 round-trip. Copa is also offering similar fares to Montevideo from Miami and New York, but not to Rio, unfortunately.

Copa is a Star Alliance airline, which means that all of your flights will earn credit with United. You’ll earn more redeemable miles if you credit to Copa’s own ConnectMiles program, which is actually currently matching United elite status — United Platinum and 1K members will earn Copa Platinum status, which includes three regional upgrades. Unfortunately, Copa’s regional upgrades can’t be used on flights booked in the “L” fare class, such as those below. However, you can redeem United regional upgrades with these fares, depending on availability.

If you’re considering using this deal for a mileage run, consider that Copa flights not booked through United do not earn Premier Qualifying Dollars (PQDs). However, you will earn full Premier Qualifying Miles (PQMs) on these flights.
