On October 23, SAS will operate its final flight between Houston and Stavanger, Norway, which at nearly 5,000 miles each way, is currently the world’s longest 737 flight. The 737-700, which is operated by Privatair, will fly between Copenhagen and Newark, instead. Last week, I shared how to book a business-class award on one of the last flights between IAH and SVG, but now, in a bid to fill seats, SAS launched an even more appealing offer.
You can book a round-trip 737 flight between the two cities for just $778 — full details are available at SAS’ site (in Norwegian), but the flights are even showing up on Google Flights. Unfortunately this only works in one direction — from Stavanger to Houston — so you’d need to originate in Europe. Flights are more than $5,500 when booked in the other direction. Still, if you’re currently in Europe or you don’t mind hopping over for this once-in-a-lifetime flight, this is certainly a fantastic deal.
Currently, the discounted fares are only available if you depart Stavanger on October 16 or 17, returning to Houston on October 18, 19, 21 or 22. The final flight, from Houston to Stavanger on October 23, is not available, though you can book it for $1,886 round-trip.
Note that it’s even possible to book this flight through United, in which case you’ll earn Premier Qualifying Dollars in addition to miles. If you book through SAS, the flight will earn 14,532 award miles, before elite bonuses. If you book through United, the flight will earn between 3,510 miles (for general members) and 7,722 miles (for Premier 1K members), plus $702 PQDs. Either way, you’ll earn 14,532 premier-qualifying miles. To book through United, select award flights on the dates you want to travel, then choose the option to “purchase this reservation in first/business class for $778.20 without redeeming miles” on the checkout page.
