United Launches Meet and Greet Concierge Service

United Airlines is continuing its attempt at healing its harsh customer service reputation. In 2015, the carrier announced it would allow airport agents to distribute electronic goodwill certificates of up to $125 and it would equip 23,000 flight attendants and more than 6,000 US hub-based customer service reps with the iPhone 6 Plus. The airline also announced it was bringing back complimentary snacks for economy passengers in 2016, as well as United Premier 1K and Global Services members receiving complimentary food and drink no matter their cabin. And now, United is taking another step in boosting customer service satisfaction by offering passengers an airport meet and greet service.

The new United VIP Meet & Assist service is currently only available at Newark and Chicago O’Hare and offers customers concierge service for departure, connection or arrival. You must choose which part of your trip you are booking service for and book each leg individually. The highlights include curbside pick-up for departures and jet bridge pick-up for arrivals, flight monitoring, language assistance, access and assistance with priority check-in and security, as well as assistance with transfers and rebookings, among other benefits. However, it does not include United Club lounge access. Instead, your concierge will help you arrange United Club lounge access for an additional charge.

The standard pricing for the arrival, departure or connecting service is $250 for one person, $325 for two people, $400 for three people and $475 for four people. It’s about the same price as American Airlines’ Five Star Service ($250 for one adult, $75 for each additional adult and $50 for each child). However, with that you get Admirals Club Lounge access. To book, go to United’s Exclusive Assistance page where you can select either arrival, connecting or departure service.

Ultimately, if you’re looking for the complete concierge assistance service, this seems like a pretty fair deal. The service is an attempt by United to make air travel completely seamless for its customers by offering personalized concierge service. But if United were to add complimentary United Club lounge access as a benefit of the service, it would be even more appealing.
