Last year, there was some speculation that Virgin America was considering flying to Hawaii — just a few months later it was formally announced and the carrier launched nonstop service from San Francisco (SFO) to Honolulu (HNL). In December, Virgin America also launched a route from San Francisco (SFO) to Maui (OGG), and kicked off the service by offering discounted fares on flights to Honolulu (HNL) for $169 one-way.
Now, Virgin America is continuing its Hawaii expansion with new nonstop flights from Los Angeles (LAX) to Honolulu (HNL) starting May 5 and from LAX to Maui (OGG) starting June 14, 2016. The nonstop service from SFO to the Hawaiian Islands has been a popular option, and the newest routes will be operated on Virgin’s A320 aircraft, which it began taking delivery of last year. The daily schedule is as follows:
Los Angeles (LAX) — Honolulu (HNL)
LAX 10:35am Departure ⇒ HNL 1:25pm Arrival
HNL 2:25pm Departure ⇒ LAX 10:55pm Arrival
Los Angeles (LAX) — Maui (OGG)
LAX 9:35am Departure ⇒ OGG 12:25pm Arrival
OGG 1:40pm Departure ⇒ LAX 9:55pm Arrival
In preparation of the route launch, Virgin America is having a sale featuring fares from $169 each way for a limited time. Flights must be booked by 11:59pm CT tonight (12:59am ET), however, keep in mind that travel will not be available until the routes begin (May 5 and June 14 to HNL and OGG, respectively). As of tomorrow, Elevate members can redeem reward flights to Hawaii with no black-out dates for as few as 8,278 points.
If you’re short on Elevate points, you can transfer from American Express Membership Rewards (earned with cards like the The Platinum Card from American Express or Premier Rewards Gold) or Citi ThankYou (earned with cards like Citi Prestige or Citi Premier Card).
