Update: Some offers mentioned below are no longer available – Citi Hilton HHonors Visa Signature Card, Hilton Honors Surpass Card from American Express
Now through May 3, you’ll get a 100% bonus when you purchase Hilton points. Unlike previous promotions, this current offer isn’t tiered; as long as you buy at least 5,000 points, you’ll get the 100% bonus.
Without any bonus offer, Hilton Honors points cost 1 cent apiece, so with the 100% bonus you’re paying just 0.5 cents per point. TPG recently increased his valuation of Hilton points from 0.5 cents to 0.6 cents thanks to several new program features, including a flexible Points & Money payment option that lets you adjust how much of a hotel stay you pay for with cash vs. Hilton Honors rewards. While you’re barely paying less than our current valuation for Hilton points with the 100% bonus, it definitely beats paying more than the valuation amount.
This current bonus offer could be especially appealing if you have a low (or zeroed-out) Hilton Honors points balance but are within arm’s reach of an award. The new Points & Money award option starts at just 2,000 points (plus $30) per night for a Category 1 hotel, so you really don’t need a huge stash of points to redeem this way — at least at a lower-tier Hilton property.
Other Ways to Earn Hilton Points
Of course, buying points isn’t the only way to boost your Honors account balance. You could also sign up for a co-branded Hilton credit card, such as the no-fee Citi Hilton HHonors Visa Signature Card, which is currently offering a bonus of 75,000 points after you spend $2,000 in the first three months. The Hilton Honors Surpass Card from American Express (with a $75 annual fee) is offering 75,000 bonus points after you spend $3,000 in the first three months.
Additionally, Hilton is a transfer partner of the Citi ThankYou Rewards program, so you can move over points earned from the Citi Prestige and other cards at a 1:1.5 ratio.
This promo offers you the opportunity to buy Hilton points at half the usual price — and now that Hilton points are a bit more valuable thanks to more flexible redemption options, you’re paying under the valuation rate to boost your Honors account. However, this isn’t such an amazing deal that you should feel compelled to stock up on hotel points without a redemption in mind. Still, if you’re able to score a lucrative hotel stay by purchasing some extra rewards, it could be worth it. Just make sure to complete your purchase by May 3 if you’re interested.
