Nihi Sumba Island is an incredible resort, but it isn’t for everybody. A 45-minute flight from Bali and a two-hour car drive down bumpy roads, it isn’t the most accessible resort either. And once you’re there, don’t expect luxury boutiques and white-gloved butlers. The resort is unique in that it truly is “on the edge of wildness” like the sign says as you pull up. I got a chance to talk to the two men who made this dream a reality, Chris Burch, an NYC-based entrepreneur who built Tory Burch into a global fashion brand with his ex-wife Tory and James McBride, a hospitality industry legend who once ran the famed Carlyle Hotel in NYC’s Upper East Side.
