Watch This Massive Airbus A400M Do A Near-Vertical Combat Takeoff

At the Royal International Air Tattoo (RIAT) last weekend, military leaders and civilians convened to watch fast jets, giant transporters and historic aircraft take to the skies. During the airshow, spectators got the chance to watch an Airbus A400M — one of the world’s largest military transport planes — performing an incredible combat takeoff. The tactic is commonly used by military aircraft to take troops and equipment in and out of combat zones while avoiding enemy fire.

In this crazy aviation video, the pilot makes the plane go nearly vertical as it takes off towards the English countryside. Going airborne so quickly on large planes like the A400M is no easy feat, so we’re confident that this aerial maneuver is something that even a Blue Angel pilot would approve of.
