Repainting an airplane is no easy feat, and the team that does so has to ensure that it’s done exactly right. No airline wants to be known for a botched paint job. When planes get re-painted, it’s not as simple as throwing a new layer of paint over the existing livery — that would add weight and throw off the aerodynamics of the jet. So, the team has to remove the existing paint before it can give the plane a fresh look.

If you’ve never seen it before, watching the removal of an old paint job is actually fascinating. The paint literally melts off the fuselage. Watch this process happen in this crazy aviation video and see the team give the plane its fresh, modern look.
