There’s no question that lounge access is one of the top perks of The Platinum Card® from American Express and The Business Platinum Card® from American Express — but even with a growing Centurion Lounge network, soon to include a new international location, Amex’s reach is limited.
The Platinum cards include a Priority Pass membership too, of course, but that access comes along with other premium cards as well, leaving customers with less incentive to go with an Amex specifically just to get into those lounges.
Some new additions have me especially excited, though. Per One Mile at a Time, four lounges at Munich Airport (MUC) are now accessible to Amex Platinum cardmembers, including two Senator Lounges and two Business Lounges. Even more exciting, Centurion cardmembers will have access to Munich’s outstanding Lufthansa First Class Lounge, but with a $5,000 initiation fee and $2,500 in annual dues, that invite-only card probably isn’t worth having for lounge access alone.
According to the app, you’ll need to show a same-day boarding pass for travel on Lufthansa, Swiss or Austrian Airlines to gain admission. Guests are not included, but “certain locations will allow guests for a fee.”
I’ve visited several of the Lufthansa lounges in Munich, including the First Class Lounge when flying first class last year, and I think they’re definitely worth a visit if you have the time — and a way to get in.
If you don’t have The Platinum Card from American Express or The Business Platinum Card from American Express, you can access a Lufthansa Business Lounge when flying LH or a partner airline in business or first class, while Star Alliance Gold members have access to the Senator Lounge, even when flying economy.
Have you used your Amex Platinum card to access a Lufthansa lounge?
