It’s NFL Sunday, which means yet another opportunity to earn 1,000 free Marriott Rewards points as part of the hotel chain’s “Extra Points Sundays” promotion. The new football trivia question is now up, and as always, you’ll want to tweet your answer by 8pm EST this Sunday, December 17.
If you’re not sure of the answer, let’s just say that Prince was known for partying like it was the year in question. Still don’t know? You can check out the responses of others who have already tweeted the answer.
Most folks have already answered at least one of these questions over the last few months, but don’t feel bad if you’re just getting started today, because free points are free points! Just remember that you need to link your Twitter account to your Marriott account before tweeting in order to get the points. You’ll earn an extra 250 points just for linking the accounts, and you can get another 250 points for connecting your Facebook and Instagram accounts to Marriott as well. Finally, if you follow Marriott on Twitter and Instagram, you can earn another 125 points for each.
Remember that while Marriott points are worth 0.9 cents each based on TPG‘s most recent monthly valuations, you can also transfer Marriott points to Starwood Preferred Guest thanks to the merger between the two chains. Since the transfer ratio is 3:1 between the two programs, you can turn these 1,000 Marriott Rewards points into 333 SPG points, which are worth a much higher 2.7 cents each. The total value of the points doesn’t change, but you may find additional uses for these points in Starwood’s program. At the very least, you have extra flexibility with the transfer option.
Points earned via social activity don’t reset the expiration clock for Marriott Rewards, so don’t forget to keep track of the last qualifying activity in your Marriott account. Be sure you include the hashtag #RewardsPoints when you reply to @MarriottRewards with your tweet.
