If the Northern Lights have long been on your bucket list, perhaps this is the year to tick it off. With return flights from London to Reykjavik, Iceland from £34, you have an affordable option for getting to a kickoff point for aurora borealis.

Iceland appears on both the FCO’s list of countries it deems safe for British travellers to venture to, as well as on England’s travel corridor list. In other words, you won’t have to quarantine for 14 days on your return to England.

Recently, however, Iceland changed its policy on welcoming travellers. Passengers must choose between a 14-day quarantine or a double testing procedure with quarantine for 4-5 days. If you choose the latter option, you’ll have to take one test on arrival and one 4-5 days later. During the 4-5 day period, you’ll have to quarantine. Tests cost USK 9,000 (about £52) if pre-registered or ISK 11,000 (about £63) if paid on arrival. The second test is free of charge.

To book, head to Google Flights and enter London as your departure city and Reykjavik (KEF) as your arrival destination. Then, all you need to do is use the built-in calendar function to find the best fares and dates for you. Finally, click through to book with Wizz Air or EasyJet. Keep in mind that for the lowest fares, you’ll have to book two separate one-way tickets — one-way with EasyJet and one-way with Wizz Air.
