Still umming and ahhing about a summer trip afar? Need a little convincing as to whether to get the luggage down from the attic? This might do the trick.

Tap Air Portugal has announced some ridiculously good business class sale return fares on flights to Cancun and Punta Cana, with prices for these long-haul paradises starting from less than £900, or less than £500 one-way.

With flights from a number of major European cities — Barcelona, Brussels, Dublin, Geneva, London, Madrid, Manchester, Milan, Paris, Porto, Prague, Rome and Zurich — the sale runs through July right up to October.

You have until 7 July to take advantage of the offers but be quick as you can expect plenty of tickets to fly before then.

As well as fast-track priority (where available), fliers in business will also benefit from lie-flat seats flying on an A330, allowing them to get extra comfortable during the journey.

TAP Air Portugal is also a member of Star Alliance, giving you ample opportunity to earn points on the flights.

The best deals are direct from Lisbon (LIS), the only airport which flies direct to Cancun and (CUN) and Punta Cana (PUJ). TPG found nonstop return flights from Lisbon to Cancun in Executive Class on 17 to 21 July for £852.10 per person.

TPG also found TAP Executive return flights throughout July and August from Lisbon to Punta Cana for as low as £856.98 return when flying midweek from Lisbon.

Booking direct with the website, you can find roundtrip Executive flights from London for £1,115 on a limited selection of dates.

Extremely limited, in fact, as you have to have a real play around to get return flights under £1,200. But there are bargains to be had. We found Executive flights from Heathrow to Cancun with one stop leaving 11 August and returning to London on 18 August, for £1,117.97.

At the time of writing there appeared to be search issues on TAP Portugal’s website when we attempted to find business flights between London and Punta Cana. But the deals are there if you’re willing to persevere.

We also found TAP Executive seats on third-party booking sites including Opodo.co.uk as you can see below.

Travelling from Wed 10 August and returning on 18 August, fare prices from a smidgeon over a grand at just £1,093.98 to Punta Cana on TAP Air, taking off from Gatwick and touching back into Heathrow.

However, despite the good price we’d always recommend booking directly with the airline over a third party site, which can leave you more vulnerable with regards to cancellation coverage or other itinerary changes should anything go wrong with your flight.

But do double-check before you hit purchase. During weekends and busier times throughout other peak periods during the summer, you could still stand to pay around £2,500 for Executive flights on the same routes regardless of the current sale. This pricing is on par with the cost of more superior business options on rival airlines.

If you’re able to bag yourself one of the above deal prices, however, you can be sure it’ll be cheaper than TAP Air’s competitors, which include Lufthansa, whose price from Heathrow to Cancun (CUN), connecting in Frankfurt (FRA), on business is at least £2,470 roundtrip during midweek in July.

After that the cheapest option from London is Air France/Virgin Atlantic (£2,616), connecting at Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) for £2,616, and American Airlines which will take a few hours longer and cost £2,655 for the pleasure.

Bottom line

It’s not going to be cheap flying long-haul this summer, certainly with prices set to increase as rapidly as the crowds in security. So, if you can nail a business class seat — giving you a bit of well-earned sanctum from the chaos, not to mention a potential fast-track to the gate — for a seriously low price to boot, then this sale looks like just the ticket.

While you may have to be flexible with dates it is still possible to find business class flights to both Cancun and Punta Cana in this sale for less than £900 if you’re willing to put in some effort to find them, and also happy to start the business class leg of your journey from Lisbon.
