1. 60,000 bonus Membership Rewards points with the Platinum Card from American Express

Earn 60,000 bonus Membership Rewards if you apply for The Platinum Card from American Express before 2 November 2021 and spend £6,000 in the first six months of Cardmembership for new applicants. Based on TPG’s current valuation of Membership Rewards, that huge welcome bonus is worth around £840, which, in itself, easily offsets the card’s annual fee of £575.

Membership Rewards are enormously valuable because you can transfer them to so many different airline and hotel programmes. Read our full guide here.

There’s a list of benefits a mile long with The Platinum Card from American Express, especially if you love to travel. This includes comprehensive travel insurance for you and your family, lounge access to both Priority Pass and Centurion lounges, Addison Lee monthly credits, onefinestay discounts and elite status in Avis Preferred and Hertz Gold Plus Rewards.

The Amex Platinum also offers complimentary status in four different hotel programmes: Gold with Hilton Honors, Gold with Marriott Bonvoy, Gold with Radisson Rewards and Gold with the Melia Rewards programme.

2. 60,000 bonus Avios with the British Airways American Express Accelerating Business Card

Earn 60,000 bonus Avios if you apply for the British Airways American Express Accelerating Business Card and spend £5,000 in the first three months of Cardmembership for a limited only.

This is a credit card, not a charge card, which gives business owners the option to pay for business purchases over several months or all at once. The card has a unique reward earning structure, as it allows you to earn two reward currencies at the same time: Avios and On Business Points.

You will earn 1.5 Avios for every £1 spent on the card as well as 2 On Business Points for every eligible £1 spent with British Airways. Cardmembers will also earn an additional 10,000 Avios for every £20,000 spent on the card, up to three times each calendar year.

This means new Cardmembers who spend £60,000 in their first calendar year could earn 120,000 Avios – a combination of 30,000 Avios for reaching £20,000 spend three times over, and 90,000 Avios for the 1.5 Avios per £1 earn rate. You can issue up to 99 supplementary cards to your employees for free, and you will receive all the points (Avios and On Business) as well as all the expenses put on all the cards issued to your company.

Representative example: Representative APR is 96.7% variable with an assumed credit limit of £1,200 and a purchase rate of 22.2% p.a. variable.

3. 40,000 bonus Avios and a very valuable Companion Voucher with the British Airways Premium Plus Card

Earn 40,000 bonus Avios if you apply for the British Airways American Express Premium Plus Card and spend £3,000 in the first three months of card membership, for applicants who are approved by 2 November 2021.

Based on TPG U.K.’s most recent valuation of Avios, that welcome bonus is worth around £440, which easily offsets the annual fee of £250 per year, and that’s before you even factor in the huge value of the Companion Voucher. The Premium Plus Card will earn you a generous 1.5 Avios per £1 spent on everyday purchases. This earning rate increases to a fantastic 3 Avios per £1 spent when it’s made directly with British Airways or BA Holidays.

This is the highest Avios earning rate per £1 of any U.K. credit card.

Representative example: Representative APR of 101.1% variable and a purchase rate of 24.5% variable with an assumed credit limit of £1,200.

The biggest perk of this card by far — aside from the welcome bonus — is the Companion Voucher, which is now the most valuable credit card benefit of any U.K. credit card.

In short, once you’ve got a companion voucher, you can take a friend or family member with you on the same flight and in the same cabin when you redeem Avios for a BA reward flight in any class of service. Taxes, fees and other carrier charges still apply to the companion but you’ll only need to pay the Avios for yourself. You’ll earn the prized Companion Voucher after spending £10,000 each calendar year with this card.

4. 30,000 bonus Virgin Points with the Virgin Atlantic Reward+ Credit Card

Earn 30,000 bonus Virgin Points if you apply for the Virgin Atlantic Reward+ Mastercard before 15 October 2021 and then meet the minimum spend. You’ll get 15,000 points after making your first card purchase within 90 days of account opening. You’ll get an additional 15,000 points if you then spend £3,000 within the first 90 days. The 30,000 miles are worth £360 based on our valuation of Virgin Points. There is an annual fee of £160.

With this card, you’ll earn an impressive 1.5 Virgin Points miles per £1 spent on everyday purchases and 3 Flying Club miles per £1 spent with Virgin Atlantic or Virgin Holidays. You’ll also unlock a Virgin Atlantic reward after spending £10,000 annually. Options vary, depending on the level of status you have with Flying Club but range from a companion ticket for no extra miles, an upgrade voucher of Virgin Clubhouse passes.

Representative example: Representative APR of 63.9% variable, and a purchase rate of 22.9% variable with an assumed credit limit of £1,200.

5. 30,000 bonus Membership Rewards points with the Preferred Rewards Gold Card from American Express

Earn 30,000 bonus Membership Rewards if you apply for the Preferred Rewards Gold Credit Card from American Express and spend £3,000 in the first three months of card membership for applicants who are approved by 9 November 2021. Based on TPG U.K.’s monthly valuation of Membership Rewards points, that welcome bonus is worth £420, which is an amazing deal considering there is no annual fee for the first year.

The Preferred Rewards Gold Credit Card provides a great first step to earning points that can be redeemed for free travel. Let’s take a look at the specifics.

It carries an annual fee of £140, though fortunately, this annual fee is waived for the first year.

You’ll also earn an additional 10,000 Membership Rewards points for each year of card membership so long as you spend £15,000 during that 12-month membership year period. The prospect of earning an additional 10,000 points roughly offsets the annual fee payable in the second and subsequent years.

Representative example: APR of 59.9% variable and a purchase rate of 24.5% variable with an assumed credit limit of £1,200.

This card is a great offering for beginners, especially in the first year of card membership with its huge 30,000 Membership Rewards points as a welcome bonus with no annual fee.

You can read more about this card, and this offer here.

Bottom line

There has never been a more lucrative time in recent memory to earn a huge increased welcome bonus with any of the best U.K. credit cards to earn points and miles.

It’s a fast track way to give your points and miles balance a big boost, reach your travel goals sooner and maximise your travel.
