There are plenty of ways you can earn British Airways Avios without even setting foot on a plane, whether that is through BA’s online eStore, through credit card spend or even hotel stays.

But you can also earn these Avios on your next car hire. British Airways has partnered with both Avis and Budget — here’s how it works with both.

When booking your car hire through this special Avios car hire page, you will earn Avios at a rate of 3 Avios for £1 spent. What is even better is that you will earn a minimum of 500 Avios for one- or two-day rentals, and a minimum of 700 Avios for rentals of three or more days. So even if you get a great deal on a hire car in an inexpensive country, you will still earn a minimum number of Avios.

If you’re travelling with someone else, you can also add a second driver for free. You can choose to pay either when you book the car or when you collect it. But you must book through the special BA car hire page, which can be found here.

Like their name suggests, Budget has cheaper cars, so the earn rate isn’t quite as good as Avis. You will still need to book through the same portal where you will earn Avios at a rate of 2 Avios per £1 spent. Like with Avis, Budget also provide a minimum earn rate — this minimum is 250 Avios per rental (regardless of rental length). Budget doesn’t provide a free second driver for Executive Club members like Avis does.

If you are booking car hire along with a British Airways (or partner flight), perhaps with some accommodation, remember you can stack big discounts and earn plenty of Avios by booking everything together through BA Holidays.
