One of the many benefits of both The Platinum Card and The Business Platinum Card from American Express UK are the numerous elite hotel statuses provided to primary cardholders. One of the lesser-known included hotel statuses is with Shangri-La Hotels in its Golden Circle loyalty programme where you’ll be given Jade status with either Platinum Card.

Even if you have never stayed in a Shangri-La property, there is a great offer to fast-track your way to a valuable Star Alliance Gold status if you are headed to Asia. Golden Circle has partnered with Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer loyalty programme to provide KrisFlyer Elite Gold status to Golden Circle Jade status holders, provided they take three flights operated by Singapore Airlines within four months of registering for the promotion.

For example, if you were planning a trip to Bali and flew Singapore Airlines from either London (LHR) or Manchester (MAN) to Denpasar Bali (DPS), via Singapore on Singapore Airlines, regardless of the class of service, you would be taking four flights on Singapore Airlines and therefore meet the requirements and earn KrisFlyer Elite Gold status for a year, which is the equivalent of Star Alliance Gold. This status is very valuable, especially if you fly Star Alliance carriers regularly — and KrisFlyer is definitely one of the best Star Alliance loyalty programmes as a UK-based traveller.

Star Alliance Gold status provides:

  • Access to an extensive network of lounges around the world when you fly with Singapore Airlines, SilkAir or other Star Alliance airlines
  • Extra check-in baggage allowance
  • Priority airport check-in
  • Priority boarding
  • Priority baggage handling

This means if you bought a cheap economy flight on Lufthansa from London (LHR) to Germany, you would receive priority everything and could access any of the business class lounges in Terminal 2 including:

So how do you take advantage of this promotion?

Once you have activated your Platinum Card, register for a Golden Circle account and add your KrisFlyer membership number to your Golden Circle account (register for a KrisFlyer account if you haven’t already). Then register for a KrisFlyer status match here. You will receive an automatic match to KrisFlyer Elite Silver status, and then once you take your three eligible flights on Singapore Airlines of Silk Air this will be upgraded to KrisFlyer Elite Gold status.

Note that award flights and codeshare flights not operated by Singapore Airlines are not eligible for the status match.
