When IHG Rewards announced a new partnership with Mr & Mrs Smith back in 2019, I didn’t get all that excited. After all, Mr & Mrs Smith is a chain of boutique luxury hotels with properties worldwide. So, I expected that even once you could earn and redeeming IHG Rewards points at select Mr & Mrs Smith properties, these stays would be well outside my budget.

However, some Mr & Mrs Smith hotels became bookable through IHG Rewards on 29 October 2020. And now there are 319 Mr & Mrs Smith properties in 43 countries bookable through IHG Rewards. I recently spent time looking at each of these 319 properties. And some of these properties look amazing. Best of all, some Mr & Mrs Smith properties are surprisingly affordable.

In this guide, I’ll start by introducing what to expect at Mr & Mrs Smith properties when you book through IHG Rewards. Then I’ll discuss 35 of the most appealing Mr & Mrs Smith properties in the Americas, Asia Pacific, Africa and Europe.

What to expect when booking a Mr & Mrs Smith stay through IHG Rewards

There are many types of Mr & Mrs Smith properties. For example, you can have a relaxing pub stay at The Crab & Lobster in the United Kingdom’s West Sussex. Or you can stay at a working farm at the family-run Eckington Manor in the Cotswolds. You could even stay at an active cattle station in Baines, Australia (Bullo River Station).

Only 319 Mr & Mrs Smith properties are currently bookable through IHG Rewards. But, IHG Rewards and Mr & Mrs Smith will likely continue to increase the scope of their partnership and make more properties bookable through IHG Rewards. However, it’s essential to understand that Mr & Mrs Smith properties aren’t IHG hotels. So, some IHG Rewards benefits don’t apply. But, you can expect the following when booking a Mr & Mrs Smith property through IHG Rewards:

  • Earn 10x points plus elite bonus earnings on eligible charges on your hotel room bill
  • You can book exclusive member rates
  • Reward nights count toward elite status with IHG Rewards
  • Complimentary room upgrades for Platinum Elite and Spire Elite Members at check-in based on availability
  • A Smith Extra, which IHG’s website says is “a special touch designed to enhance your stay or immerse you in your destination”

You can also redeem IHG Rewards points for some (but not all) Mr & Mrs Smith stays when you book through IHG Rewards. Due to dynamic pricing, the points cost of a particular stay will vary based on the property, when you book and when you want to visit. Especially after the recent IHG Rewards dynamic pricing devaluation, the redemption rates you’ll get at IHG hotels tend to vary greatly.

However, you must cancel reward night reservations at Mr & Mrs Smith properties at least 30 days before the day of check-in to get the points for the cancelled reservation redeposited into your account. If you cancel within 30 days of check-in, you’ll lose the points you’d redeemed for that stay.

Finally, many Mr & Mrs Smith properties are small. For example, The Drawing Room in Wales, United Kingdom, is run by a couple and only has three rooms. And even some of the larger properties don’t have many room types bookable with IHG points. So, you may struggle to find dates with award availability at some properties.

If you’re looking to travel within the U.S., you won’t have many options. After all, there are only 13 Mr & Mrs Smith properties in the U.S. that you can currently book through IHG Rewards. But, there are also seven options in Mexico, six options in Chile and a scattering of other options.

In the below table, I list some of the most appealing options. I searched sample stays for each property until I found a stay bookable with points. However, if I didn’t find any stays bookable with points after checking at least six dates, I list a sample paid rate and note that no award nights were available.

Property Location Smith Extra Cost for sample stay Property highlights
Coqui Coqui Coba Coba, Quintana Roo, Mexico A suede luggage tag £229 or 57,500 points for 16-17 June Its location in an ancient ruined city makes for easy exploration of the jungle, lagoons and caves.
Casa las Tortugas Isla Holbox, Quintana Roo, Mexico A bottle of sparkling wine in your room £144 for 4-5 August (no award nights available) It takes a while to get to this hotel from Cancun, but it looks worth it. Yoga classes are included and turtles often swim along the resort’s private white-sand beach. This is an active outdoor paradise.
Dunton Town House Telluride, Colorado, United States A bottle of wine in your room on arrival £300 per night for 13-15 May (2-night minimum stay, no award nights available) Located in the heart of Telluride, this hotel is steps from the gondola and a few minutes’ walk from the main street.
Cambria Beach Lodge Cambria, California, United States A bottle of sparkling wine on arrival and complimentary early check-in and late check-out (subject to availability) £170 or 42,500 points for 8-9 June This beach lodge could fit in well to a California road trip. Explore the area by foot or with one of the included bikes.
Hotel Rodavento Valle de Bravo, México, Mexico A Wellness Smith Extra (a 30-minute massage for two) or an Adventure Smith Extra (a complete activities package for two) £160 for 16-17 September (no award nights available) This outdoor resort, located in a 55-acre forest with an outdoor adventure centre, has lovely design and landscaping. Plus, there’s an excellent kid’s club.
Casa No Name San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico A bottle of red wine and a bottle holder crafted by a local artisan £255 or 62,500 points for 15-16 July This 6-room 18th-century mansion is in the middle of San Miguel de Allende’s Centro Histórico and has a beautiful cobbled courtyard.
Tierra Patagonia Hotel & Spa Torres de Paine, Chile A bottle of wine in your room with a personalized welcome note £712 per night or 180,000 points per night for 9-12 November (3-night minimum stay) This hotel is on the edge of Torres del Paine National Park amidst Patagonia’s peaks. It’s not inexpensive by any means, though.

I could easily see myself splurging for a stay at the Casa las Tortugas or Hotel Rodavento. But, each of these Mr & Mrs Smith properties made this list due to its unique location or experience.

12 Mr & Mrs Smith properties to book through IHG Rewards in Asia Pacific

There are many exceptional Mr & Mrs Smith properties in the Asia Pacific region. Most of the Asia Pacific Mr & Mrs Smith properties that you can book through IHG Rewards are in Sri Lanka (19), India (17) and Australia (10). But, there’s a scattering of properties in other countries that you can book as well.

It’s unclear when many of the Asia Pacific countries will reopen their borders to U.K. tourists. But, as long as you book a rate that allows free cancellation and cancel within the free cancellation period, you may want to plan a trip to one of the following Mr & Mrs Smith properties.

Property Location Smith Extra Cost for sample stay Property highlights
Gal Oya Lodge Gal Oya National Park, Sri Lanka A guided discovery walk with the chief of the indigenous Vedda tribe, who will show you ancient hunting grounds and medicinal herb gardens £191 or 47,500 points for 14-15 July This lodge in Gal Oya National Park will force you to disconnect as there’s no Wi-Fi or cell signal. But the experiences available at this lodge, including jungle rides and boat safaris, look to be memorable.
Samode Palace Jaipur, India An escorted tour of Samode village, plus high tea in the gardens at Samode Bagh £93 or 22,500 points for 16-17 June You can stay in a legit palace at this 300-year-old mahārāja’s mansion. However, smoking is allowed in the rooms.
28 Kothi Jaipur, India A high-tea platter at Cafe Kothi £69 or 15,000 points for 9-10 June This 5-room guesthouse features a modern design and well-regarded restaurant. It’s also the most modestly priced option in this guide.
Aava Resort & Spa Khanom, Thailand A fruit basket, home-made chocolate balls from Aava Bakery and a bottle of sparkling wine £96 or 22,500 points for 15-16 September This resort looks relaxed and the informal boat trips to see pink dolphins sound lovely. It’s an appealing addition if you already plan to visit Koh Samui.
SwaSwara Karnataka, India One 30-minute private yoga class a person per stay £181 for 15-16 July (no award nights available) This eco-friendly retreat a few hours outside Goa includes breakfast, daily group yoga and meditation sessions, daily cooking classes, guided nature walks and bird-watching and art and pottery lessons led by the resident artist in its rates.
Tri Ahangama, Sri Lanka A scenic tour of Koggala Lake £205 or 50,000 points for 12-13 October This sustainable luxury hotel is beautifully located on the shores of Lake Koggala near Galle. I highly recommend arriving at the hotel via a Cinnamon Air seaplane.
Santani Wellness Resort & Spa Kandy, Sri Lanka A one-hour massage each for two £327 for 13-14 October (no award nights available) This wellness resort and spa in Kandy is all about harmony. Rates include breakfast, lunch, dinner and non-alcoholic drinks; daily sunrise and sunset yoga; and use of the sauna, steam room and salt bath.
Dera Amer Jaipur, India A Rosé wine sundowner each by the camp £291 or 72,500 points for 14-15 June This tented safari camp about an hour outside Jaipur seems to provide riding-free elephant experiences with domesticated elephants it has rehomed. Transfers, food and more are included in some rates.
The Kumaon Almora, India A hand-woven woolen shawl from the weavers of the Kumaon region £191 or 47,500 points for 8-9 June It’s 3 hours from the nearest train station and 4 hours from the nearest airport, but the views at this minimalist mountain lodge overlooking India’s second-highest peak might be worth the journey.
Samode Safari Lodge Bandhavgarh, India A traditional local gift, early check-in and late check-out £217 per night for 17-18 June (no award nights available) This remote safari lodge is hours from the nearest airport or train station, but you’ll likely see a tiger while on safari in Bandhavgarh National Park. Some rates include all meals and twice-daily safari activities.
Wa Ale Island Resort Kawthaung Township, Myanmar A string bag handmade by local artisans in Myanmar £559 per night for 11-14 December (arrivals and departures are typically only on Tuesdays and Saturday, no award nights available) This off-the-grid resort is the first to open in the untouched Lampi Marine National Park in southern Myanmar. You can snorkel, dive and hike in 9,000 acres of private-island paradise. Getting to the resort isn’t quick, though.
Shinta Mani Wild Kampon Seila District, Cambodia A romantic outdoor bath arranged on your terrace £1,687 per night for 12-15 October (3-night minimum stay, no award nights available) This remote tented camp looks to be an incredibly unique experience. Everything is included in the rate, including airport transfers, activities, food, drinks, spa treatments, excursions and activities.

Some Mr & Mrs Smith properties in Australia, including Sal Salis and Paperbark Camp, look fantastic. But, presumably due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, I didn’t find any availability at these properties despite searching many dates.

As you can see, the above table lists the most expensive property in this guide (Shinta Mani Wild), which is likely out of reach for most of us. But the table above also contains several of the least expensive Mr & Mrs Smith properties that I found bookable through IHG Rewards. I included 28 Kothi in the above table since it’s the least costly stay I found. But, I think the slightly higher priced Samode Palace (which is also in Jaipur) is worth it if you don’t mind staying in a smoking room.

Most of the Mr & Mrs Smith properties bookable through IHG Rewards in Africa are in Morocco (15 total, including 13 in Marrakech) and South Africa (10). Here are some of my favourites:

Property Location Smith Extra Cost for sample stay Property highlights
Tsala Treetop Lodge Plettenberg Bay, South Africa A bottle of Methode Cap Classique sparkling wine and a locally-sourced gift £677 or 170,000 points for 9-10 September The base room is a treetop suite. If you’re going to splurge, these glass-walled treehouses with private plunge pools are a spectacular way to do so.
The Outpost Pafuri, South Africa A full-body massage each and a bottle of South African sparkling wine £397 or 100,000 points for 10-11 February This lodge is located in the remote northern part of Kruger National Park. The open-plan rooms with no locks or windows look spectacular. Rates include bush walks, twice-daily game drives, all meals, local beverages, laundry services and transfers from Pafuri airstrip.
Dar One Marrakech, Morocco A bottle of wine on arrival £84 for 10-11 November (no award nights available) This renovated Moroccan riad is in the Jewish quarter of the medina.
Zanzibar White Sand Zanzibar, Tanzania One 30-minute spa treatment and a local gift £369 for 7-9 December (no award nights available) This hotel is located on Paje Beach, one of the most beautiful strips of sand on Zanzibar’s southeast coast. The location is excellent for snorkelling and kitesurfing.

Most of these properties are outside my budget. But, I choose these four to highlight because I believe they offer unique experiences. And, if you’re going to Marrakech, Morocco, I recommend searching on IHG Rewards to get a feel for your options. Many of the Mr & Mrs Smith properties in Morocco let you stay in centrally located riads. But Dar One looks pretty awesome and was consistently the least expensive option in my searches.

12 Mr & Mrs Smith properties to book through IHG Rewards in Europe

Europe contains the most significant number of Mr & Mrs Smith properties bookable through IHG Rewards. However, compared to Mr & Mrs Smith properties in other parts of the world, I find most of the European properties less compelling. But, there are still some spectacular experiences to be found. Here’s a quick listing of my favourites.

Property Location Smith Extra Cost for sample stay Property highlights
Arctic Treehouse Hotel Rovaniemi, Finland A bottle of wine by one of the private outdoor fire pits £325 for 8-9 November (no award nights available) Each cabin at this remote, yet surprisingly easy to reach, resort offers a window wall with epics views.
The Retreat at Blue Lagoon Grindavík, Iceland A bottle of champagne £1,027 for 11-12 November (no award nights available) You’ll enjoy access to bright-blue geothermal lagoons separate from the public Blue Lagoon.

Hotel Cappuccino Palma, Spain Cocktails for two in the hotel’s Cappuccino Grand Café £152 for 8-9 September (no award nights available) This hotel has a roof-top pool and an excellent location in the center of Palma.
Hotel Can Mostatxins Mallorca, Spain A welcome drink each £114 for 25-26 August (no award nights available) It is located in Mallorca’s historic Alcúdia Old Town with original mason-built walls from when it served as an olive oil presser.
My Mykonos Hotel Mikonos, Greece One sunset cocktail, per person to enjoy at the bar during their stay, plus €50 F&B resort credit for min 3 nights stays or more £317 or 80,000 points for 17-18 August This hotel has an appealing pool area. Plus, it’s just a 10-minute walk from the heart of Old Town.
Abaton Island Resort & Spa Hersonissos, Greece One 45-minute massage each £316 or 77,500 points for 17-18 August This water-focused resort on Crete has beautiful rooms and excellent sunset views from the pool.
Areias do Seixo Santa Cruz, Portugal For stays of up to two nights, you’ll get an edible treat; for more extended stays, a spa treatment if you book a room or garden goodies if you book a villa £296 for 17-18 August (no award nights available) This is a great beach break to add to a trip to Lisbon, especially considering rates include breakfast, snacks, bikes and local wine.
Château les Merles Mouleydier, France A free glass of champagne, a selection of regional amuse-bouches and a bottle of wine from the vineyards of Château Les Merles £140 or 35,000 points for 10-11 August With a reasonably-priced 9-hole golf course and gardens, this property looks like a relaxing rural escape.
Château St Pierre de Serjac Puissalicon, France One bottle of wine from the Château St Pierre de Serjac estate, mineral water and a selection of mignardises in your room on arrival £145 or 35,000 points for 17-18 June This restored 19th-century manor has a working winery and extensive grounds perfect for a country retreat.
The Close Tetbury, United Kingdom A welcome glass of chilled Prosecco each on arrival £168 for 7-8 October (no award nights available) This property is a mix of classic Cotswolds and modern country house. Its beautiful stonework and gardens look compelling.
Tuddenham Mill Tuddenham, United Kingdom A Mill Bag (a small gift from the kitchen to take home); members staying three nights or more will also get a bottle of champagne £148 for 21-22 October (no award nights available) This converted water mill outside London has generous grounds and an award-winning restaurant.

Many European Mr & Mrs Smith properties are ideal for city escapes for European couples or families. However, the Arctic Treehouse Hotel would be an epic setting to see the Northern Lights. And I love the central location and history of Hotel Can Mostatxins. It’s certainly worth keeping an eye out for Mr & Mrs Smith properties when you’re searching for European hotels.

Bottom line

Some Mr & Mrs Smith properties cater to artists or want-to-be artists. Meanwhile, others cater to foodies or outdoor lovers. And travellers with young children will want to look for properties that offer Junior Smith activities or amenities. In short, make sure you select a property that’s a good fit for you.

When researching this article, I priced out hundreds of Mr and Mrs Smith bookings through IHG Rewards. In doing so, I found a relatively consistent redemption rate. However, you may struggle to find award availability at some properties.
