Is your gas tank running on E? You could be able to get some bonus Amex Membership Rewards points just for filling up.
American Express is targeting some cardholders with a new offer to get 500 Membership Rewards points after spending $35+ on gas. You can earn the 500 bonus points up to three times — for a total of 1,500 points.
According to the terms of the offer, it expires on Dec. 31, 2018, giving you just less than three months in order to maximize it. The $35+ must be made in single purchases, not in combined gas purchase amounts. Meaning, you’ll likely want to wait as close as possible for your tank to reach empty before filling up with hopes of qualifying for the $35 (of course, that is if you have a small tank).
Based on TPG’s most recent valuations, the maximum 1,500 points you can earn as part of this offer are worth $28.50. Only the actual fuel purchase will count toward the $35 minimum — not any purchase made inside the gas station. In addition, superstores, warehouse clubs and supermarkets that have gas stations are not eligible for the offer.
To check to see if you were targeted for the Amex offer, log in to your Amex account and check your offers. There are some reports that the offer is appearing only on Amex cards like the Platinum Card® from American Express, not those that are cobranded.
