Iceland might not be the first place you think of for a summer holiday but right now, Iceland is one of the few destinations you can easily reach directly from the United Kingdom without the need to quarantine on your return home.

How about something a little unusual for your summer holiday, during this most unusual of times?

Summer is a fantastic time to visit Iceland. While there won’t be any northern lights and you probably won’t come back with a deep sun tan, the trade-off is you’ll experience 24 hours of sunlight each day with plenty of time to be out and about enjoying some of the world’s most spectacular scenery and natural attractions.

If you’ve cancelled your normal beach summer holiday this summer you might be sitting on a stack of Avios you are keen to use. If you are still keen to get away somewhere during the usually very busy and expensive August school holidays, right now there’s great Avios availability for the whole family.

British Airways flies from London Heathrow (LHR) to Iceland’s Keflavík International Airport (KEF), serving the capital city of Reykjavík four to five times weekly over summer.

These flights are part of British Airways’ good-value Reward Flight Saver offer. This means you’ll pay a fixed amount of fees, taxes and surcharges of £17.50 per person in Euro Traveller or £25 per person in Club Europe regardless of the date or destination. What does differ slightly is the number of Avios required, which is based on the distance of the flight.

You’ll be charged the following Avios, per person, each way:

  • 9,250 Avios on off-peak dates, and 10,750 on peak dates in Euro Traveller
  • 17,750 Avios on off-peak dates, and 20,750 on peak dates in Club Europe
