British Airways is launching a new route to Cornwall for the summer 2020 season. The new summer seasonal route will operate between London Heathrow (LHR) and Newquay (NQY) — the only summer nonstop option between the U.K.’s largest airport and the Cornish town.

The route will launch on 2 July and operate through 7 September 2020 with five weekly services — Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. The flights will operate on the following schedule on Mondays and Fridays:

  • BA1350 London Heathrow (LHR) 6:05 p.m. Departure ⇒ Newquay (NQY) 7:15 p.m. Arrival
  • BA1351 Newquay (NQY) 8:15 p.m. Departure ⇒ London Heathrow (LHR) 9:25 p.m. Arrival

It will operate on the following schedule on Thursdays:

  • BA1350 London Heathrow (LHR) 7 a.m. Departure ⇒ Newquay (NQY) 8:10 a.m. Arrival
  • BA1351 Newquay (NQY) 9:10 a.m. Departure ⇒ London Heathrow (LHR) 10:20 a.m. Arrival

It will operate on the following schedules on Saturdays:

  • BA1350 London Heathrow (LHR) 6:40 a.m. Departure ⇒ Newquay (NQY) 7:50 a.m. Arrival
  • BA1351 Newquay (NQY) 9:55 a.m. Departure ⇒ London Heathrow (LHR) 11:05 a.m. Arrival

It will operate on the following schedules on Sundays:

  • BA1350 London Heathrow (LHR) 7:10 p.m. Departure ⇒ Newquay (NQY) 8:20 p.m. Arrival
  • BA1351 Newquay (NQY) 9:25 p.m. Departure ⇒ London Heathrow (LHR) 10:35 p.m. Arrival

Each of the flight schedules is perfect for a summer weekend getaway to Cornwall. For example, you could leave London Heathrow at 6:05 p.m. on a Friday night before leaving for London after a weekend at 9:25 p.m. on a Sunday, landing at 10:35 p.m.

“We know that customers enjoy exploring the UK as much as they do going further afield, and Newquay has so much to offer, especially in the summer months”, said Neil Chernoff, BA’s director of network and alliances.

The new flight is a much faster option for travellers looking to spend time in Cornwall for the summer. Driving from central London to Newquay can take five hours, and often even more with traffic. The nonstop flight option decreases that travel time down to just about one hour — or less.

During the winter season, regional carrier Flybe operates between London Heathrow (LHR) and Newquay (NQY) four times daily. However, during the summer season, Flybe switches that route from LHR to London Gatwick (LGW) and London Southend (SEN), with up to five daily frequencies to Newquay.

Tickets for the new route are now available for purchase, with fares starting at £90 return in economy and £250 return in Club Europe. Alternatively, this short, 210-mile hop could be a good use of Avios in the form of a Reward Flight Saver.
