The city of Leeds wants people to come visit — and then it wants them to extend their holiday a bit longer.
It just debuted a campaign called “Be Our Guest” aimed at getting travellers to come to Leeds for a staycation, and it’s offering an extra night at a hotel as an enticement to come visit the city known as the “Foodie Capital of the North.”
The promotion is done in conjunction with a dozen of the top hotels in the city. Guests who book two nights at one of the participating hotels will get a third night for free.
The idea is to encourage tourists to extend their stay and explore the many attractions, events and experiences Leeds has to offer while providing a holiday option that is budget-friendly.
There are three differently priced packages — £120, £160 or £200 — depending on the hotel chosen. As an added bonus, the first 100 people to book under the “Be Our Guest” promotion will also pick up a basket full of treats from various local vendors worth £100.
The hotels available for the nightly £120 rate are: Ibis Styles Leeds City Centre Arena and Discovery Inn Hotel.
The greatest variety of options are the hotels in the £160 per night range, including several along the Leeds waterfront. Here are the properties taking part in the promotion: Jurys Inn Leeds, Novotel Leeds Centre, Park Plaza Leeds, Weetwood Hall Estate, Clayton Hotel, Leeds and The Met Hotel.
Finally, there are a trio of four-star options for £200 per night if you want to live it up on your holiday. The hotels are: Malmaison, Radisson Blu Hotel Leeds City Centre and Crowne Plaza Leeds Hotel.
Leeds is following a similar move by Manchester earlier this year that focused on local travellers as a way to begin reviving the tourism economy. Recently, IHG Hotels offered a late checkout promotion at many of its U.K. properties meant to encourage longer stays in local destinations. People want to travel again, but with uncertainty over international travel, some tourists may feel a local holiday is the best option.
“We hope that our Be Our Guest campaign can enhance Leeds’ status as the perfect destination for a staycation, and are encouraging visitors to take advantage of this great offer by staying longer to explore Leeds and experience the vibrant spirit of our city,” said Jonathan Pryor, deputy leader and executive member for economy, culture and education.
The Visit Leeds website has the full details of the promotion as well as all sorts of useful information to help you plan out a long weekend in the West Yorkshire city.
