British Airways extending On Business point expiration dates and reducing spending requirements

British Airways has announced benefits to help their On Business programme customers during the COVID-19 pandemic.
On Business is a loyalty programme allowing businesses to collect points for the travel they buy for their employees on British Airways, Iberia and American Airlines. The points can be used by the business for reward tickets or cabin upgrades on cash tickets, which saves businesses money on travel and expenses.
Any On Business points due to expire at the end of 2020 will be extended by six months. Additionally, all On Business points earned between now and 31 March 2021 will be extended by 12 months.
In acknowledgement that most companies business travel has reduced dramatically this year, British Airways are also reducing the spend requirements in the programme to move up each On Business programme tier. Previously, businesses would earn the following bonus points, based on their spend on travel in the programme:
- Spend £30,000 and £299,999 each year — 25% more On Business points (1.25 points per £1); and
- Spend £300,000+ each year — 50% more On Business points (1.5 points per £1).
As a result of the pandemic, British Airways have now reduced the spend requirements as follows:
- Spend £18,000 and £179,999 each year — 25% more On Business points (1.25 points per £1); and
- Spend £180,000+ each year — 50% more On Business points (1.5 points per £1).
This reduction will be backdated, so if your business has met the new lower spend thresholds at any time during 2020, you will move up to the higher point earning rate automatically.
The On Business points are very valuable (much more valuable than Avios), and you can use them for any available seat at the last minute (up to 24 hours before your flight departs) and there are no fees for changing your flight more than 24 hours in advance.
