Airline shopping portals are one of the best ways to earn heaps of miles towards your next trip. If you’re not on board already, don’t delay and get involved so you’re not missing the opportunity to earn valuable points and miles for purchases you would be making anyway.

For those not in the know, shopping portals allow you to earn bonus miles on most online purchases. So that jumper you wanted to purchase from ASOS would earn you 6 Avios per pound spent, rather than nothing. And now, the British Airways eStore is reintroducing functionality to ease the process of earning those bonus Avios.

In short, you can now register your cards with the portal and you will earn bonus Avios at select high street brands whenever you shop with them, both in-store and online, using the registered card to make the purchase.

Collect on Card works with credit cards and debit cards. Don’t be fooled into thinking this is a promotion just for those holding British Airways cobranded American Express cards. That said, it’s important to remember that by using a rewards card, you will be able to double dip on the earning of miles and points.

Right now, the available retailers are limited, but we will keep you informed as this extends. Here are the current offers:

  • Odeon — 10 Avios per pound spent
  • Hawes and Curtis — 10 Avios per pound spent
  • Q-Park — 2 Avios per pound spent
  • The Fragrance Shop — 5 Avios per pound spent

The additional earning potential is pretty great here. Let’s say a family of four heads to the cinema, spends £100 on tickets and snacks and £10 on parking and pays with a BA American Express Premium Plus card that is registered with Collect on Card. The earning would break down as follows:

  • Odeon purchase = 1,000 Avios
  • Q-Park = 20 Avios
  • Bonus earning on Amex card = 165 Avios
  • Total = 1,185 Avios

Based on TPG U.K.’s latest valuations, the 1,185 bonus Avios are worth £13 — not a bad return for purchases you were already planning on making. Just four of these cinema trips in a year earns you a free one-way flight in Europe with British Airways.

Registering your cards is simple. Head to the British Airways Executive Club Rewards app, which is separate to the British Airways app. Where you see “Collect on Card” on the home screen, follow the instructions to input your card details. We recommend registering all your cards that you use on day-to-day spending to ensure you are fully covered and earn all the bonus miles available to you.

Bottom line

Registering your cards for this promotion is a no-brainer. You will earn extra Avios in the background, getting you closer to that next first-class flight for almost free. The programme could become more lucrative if it’s rolled out with even more retailers.
