Later this year, there will be a new way to earn Avios. On Monday, Barclays UK announced a new partnership with Avios and British Airways, which will allow members to earn Avios in a new way.
“Barclays Premier customers in the UK will be able to earn Avios through their current account and other banking products as well as receive additional loyalty benefits and experiences”, Barclays detailed in a press release. “Through British Airways Executive Club, members can then spend their Avios on Reward flights or upgrades, car rental, hotels and thousands of experiences”.
Unfortunately, that’s about as much as we know at this point. That being said, it’s an exciting development for points and miles collectors in the U.K. Generally speaking, the most lucrative ways to earn points and miles in the U.K. come in the form of credit cards — and by comparison to those available in the U.S., they’re lacking in terms of earn rates and benefits.
With this soon-to-come new way to earn Avios, however, U.K.-based points and miles collectors will have a new way to increase their Avios balances. In addition, this announcement has detailed that members will be able to “receive additional loyalty benefits and experiences”, though exact details on what those may be are not yet available.

According to the press release, “Barclays Premier customers and British Airways Executive Club members will be able to find out more details on the new programme, including eligibility and how to pre-register, later this year”.
Barclays Premier Banking requires that you have an annual gross income of £75,000 or more paid into a Barclays current account or have £100,000 or more saved or invested with Barclays.
Signing up for a British Airways Executive Club account, allowing you to earn Avios, is free and recommended as a first step to getting into points and miles as a U.K.-based traveller.
