Emirates already has significant involvement in European football, sponsoring several major teams including Arsenal and Real Madrid. It’s understandable that the carrier may have some football fans on board its flights while key matches are being played.
The airline has a comprehensive inflight entertainment system known as ‘ICE’, with more than 4,000 channels of entertainment.
Emirates has taken the additional step of ensuring that all keen football fans don’t miss out on any of the action from the UEFA Europa League Final and the UEFA Champions League Final by showing the final matches live on all UK flights.
Emirates has live TV on all of its Boeing 777 services, but not on all of its flagship Airbus A380 aircraft, which operate most of its UK services. For example, of its massive 11 daily London flights spread across Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted airports, 10 of them are Airbus A380 services.
But showing its commitment to both the sport and team sponsorships, Emirates has gone to the trouble of ensuring that all 23 flights operating to or from the UK while the following matches are on will show the matches live on its dedicated inflight sports channel, Sport 24:
- UEFA Europa League Final on May 29 (Chelsea vs. Arsenal)
- UEFA Champions League Final on June 1 (Tottenham vs. Liverpool)
Emirates’s A380 onboard bar will also show the matches on larger screens.
