Along with airline shopping portals, earning miles when shopping in-store is also a great way of topping up your accounts — especially supermarket purchases.
Now, there are changes coming to your Flying Club miles in-store earning potential — unfortunately, not in a good way. Virgin Atlantic’s partnerships with Waitrose and Morrisons will be ending this month, meaning you only have a few days left to make the most of the earning potential in supermarkets.

If you hadn’t heard of this way of earning before, it’s not too late to make the most of the earning potential before the offers run out at the end of this month. All you have to do is log in to your Shops Away account and register one or more of your debit or credit cards.
It’s important to note that the purchases must be made with the physical card with which you registered for Shops Away — points will not be earned if the transaction is made via Apple, Android or Samsung Pay or any other form of payment.
As of Thursday, 26 March, you will no longer earn miles for spending in-store in Waitrose. To benefit from the bonus miles before the offer ends, either head to your local store and do a shop, or, to make it last longer, bulk buy some gift cards, as this will register as in-store spend and earn your miles.
Earning amounts are targeted per customer. The usual rate of earning is 1 mile for every pound spent, but it can be up to 3 miles.
You have slightly longer until Sunday, 29 March to make the most of the earning potential at Morrisons.
For purchases less than £20, earning is set at 1 Virgin Atlantic Flying Club mile per pound. But, for total spend of more than £20, you can earn a significant amount more. To check what your targeted personal offer is, you’ll need to log in to your Shops Away account.
Ultimately, these are good options to have when considering your supermarket purchases — and ones we’ll miss when they go away for good. You still have some time to take advantage, so don’t wait.
