We’ve been asking to hear your travel success and mistake stories to both celebrate and help our TPG U.K. community — even if you’re not travelling right now.

This week, TPG U.K.’s General Manager and resident British Airways expert Christian Kramer shared his experience with a generous Avios promotion:

“Back in June, Kiehl’s ran an incredible British Airways Avios eStore promotion offering 40 Avios per £1 spent. I jumped at this generous deal and stocked up on £136.52 worth of Kiehl’s products via the offer, expecting a big chunk of Avios as a result. A day later, I received an email from the eStore advising that I’d only be receiving a disappointing 684 Avios — far less than the four-figure sum I was expecting.

However, the eStore and Kiehl’s said a few days later that it was an IT issue that they were working on, so I just waited with fingers crossed. Last week, when checking pending transactions on my British Airways Executive Club app (not the British Airways app, but the Executive Club App), I could see 5,462 Avios pending for my Kiehl’s purchase.

Here at TPG, we value those Avios at around £60 — an incredible 44% earned back in value!”

Online shopping portals can be an easy way to earn points and miles from home. Normal offers may be only a few points or miles per £1 spent, but it’s worth keeping an eye on special offers that can entice you with many times the normal amounts. From just one online purchase, Christian has earned more than enough Avios for a one-way flight to the likes of Amsterdam, Berlin or Edinburgh.
