We’re still not over the Royal Wedding, but the royals may be over us, their loyal fans. After Harry and Meghan’s Namibia honeymoon plans had to be scrapped for security purposes, TMZ reports that the newlyweds may switch directions altogether. Their Royal Highnesses allegedly have their eyes on the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge in Alberta, Canada, where a 6,000-square foot Outlook Cabin nicknamed “The Royal Retreat” sounds like the perfect getaway.
Or is it? Even though the Brits and Canadians purportedly will team up for the security detail, that still might not be enough safety to satisfy the Crown. As we explained in our story yesterday, if the couple’s plans are public knowledge, the British protection team may not feel that the location is safe enough, which means the couple would have to go back to the drawing board for plan #3.
That being said, Harry and Meghan might still have some time to plan the perfect trip if their social calendars are still as full as ever. It’s not too late for them to take a peek at our suggestions for the honeymoon of a lifetime… hint, hint.
Even if they don’t end up going to the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge for their honeymoon, Harry and Meghan may still want to visit at some point due to its popularity with royalty — including Harry’s own ancestors. King George VI and Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother visited in 1939, while Harry’s grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II and her husband, Prince Philip, visited just a few years ago in 2005. The Lodge is popular with commoners as well, with a guestbook filled with names like Anthony Hopkins, John Travolta and Bill Gates. Marilyn Monroe and Robert Mitchum filmed the 1954 movie “River of No Return” there as well.
