Update 5/8/18 1:00pm ET: As One Mile at a Time reports, you can find more Lufthansa First availability on additional routes through LifeMiles and KrisFlyer. LifeMiles is showing availability on Lufthansa’s Newark (EWR) to Frankfurt (FRA) route, as well as between Washington Dulles (IAD) and FRA and finally between New York (JFK) and Munich (MUC).
Last month, Lufthansa opened more of its first class award space to some of its partners, allowing travelers to book more than 15 days in advance of travel. While Lufthansa used to reserve award space for its Miles and More members, you can now book Lufthansa First awards on several of its Star Alliance partners with advance notice — and now that ability is expanding to more routes and with more availability.
In April, Lufthansa First award space was showing up only on one US-based route — between San Francisco (SFO) and Munich (MUC). Now, Lufthansa appears to be releasing more space — including up to four first-class seats on its route between Chicago (ORD) and Frankfurt (FRA). Your best bet is to search for space either through Avianca’s LifeMiles program for 87,000 miles one-way…
… or Singapore’s KrisFlyer program for 95,000 miles one-way.
Avianca is showing up to four Lufthansa First seats available on some days. We’re seeing the most widespread Lufthansa First availability scattered throughout August — it’ll take some clicking around to find dates that work for you. At this time, it appears that both United and Aeroplan are still blocking Lufthansa First availability unless it’s 15 days out. So, for now, you’ll want to stick to searching with LifeMiles, KrisFlyer or Miles and More.
If you’re interested in taking advantage of this availability, check out this post for a look at what Lufthansa First is like on its A330, A340, A380 and 747. As a reminder, Singapore KrisFlyer miles are one of the most transferable currencies out there — you can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards, American Express Membership Rewards, Citi ThankYou points and Starwood Preferred Guest Starpoints to the program. On the other hand, Avianca LifeMiles only transfer from Citi ThankYou points. If you’re looking to increase your stash of ThankYou points, consider signing up for a card like the Citi Premier Card, which is currently offering a sign-up bonus of 50,000 points after spending $4,000 in the first three months of account opening.
