Originally set to open in summer 2020, the new extension at Manchester Airport (MAN) will finally open this week.

TUI and Jet2 will be the first to operate flights out of the brand-new facility. In the coming weeks, other airlines will join them.

Originally planned to open a year ago, the unveiling of the new extension was put on hold when the COVID-19 pandemic first grounded global travel to a halt.

The new terminal boasts significant improvements, including a four-times-larger immigration hall, eight new baggage belts, two airport-operated lounges and a 10-lane security area.

Starting 14 July, Jet2 will operate its flights to Menorca (MAH), Ibiza (IBZ) and Palma de Mallorca (PMI) out of the new terminal. TUI will follow suit on 15 July with a range of destinations including Malta (MLA) and Madeira (FNC). On 17 July, Singapore Airlines will move over to the new facility.

“After a long wait, we are delighted to confirm the first passengers will be able to enjoy our new Terminal Two this week,” said Manchester Airport managing director Karen Smart. “It is a proud milestone for our airport as we begin to emerge from the restrictions brought about by the COVID-19 crisis, and an important moment in our 83-year history.”

Smart also confirmed more retailers, restaurants and airlines are coming to the terminal.

“As government restrictions continue to be eased, and travel to more destinations is opened-up in the weeks ahead, we will be making further announcements about the carriers and retailers operating from T2,” Smart said.

Currently, confirmed outlets include Pret-a-Manger, Costa Coffee, KFC, The Amber Alehouse and The Bridgewater Exchange by Joseph Holt. Furthermore, T2 will see an Archie’s and juice bar VIT.
