We’ve been asking to hear your travel success and mistake stories to both celebrate and help our TPG UK community.

This week, Simon contacted us regarding some other reader difficulties in using their British Airways 2-4-1 Companion Voucher. He loves earning his vouchers and uses them well every year:

“I have earned a Companion Voucher each year over the past three years. We are flying this week to New Orleans on a 2-4-1 Voucher in BA Club World using 125,000 Avios and about £1,100 in taxes in total for the two of us. We used one about six months ago to Las Vegas — again, 125,000 Avios and £1,100 taxes. Cash price would have been £3,000 + each, per ticket.

We are using our other Voucher late next year to Tobago in the Caribbean in Club World — 125,000 Avios and less than £1,000 total taxes. Cash price for the two tickets was nearly £7,000.

So I guess it is about knowing how to use the Vouchers and maximising them. Also, I’ve found more value in getting the Vouchers on the British Airways Premium Plus American Express Card with 24-month validity — not the 12-month ones with BA’s no-fee Amex card.

In short, I can say that I have maximised my Companion Vouchers extremely well, getting the equivalent of over £20,000 worth of business-class tickets for less than £4,000 taxes and card annual fees.”

Simon’s experience is a great reminder of the value to be had from the British Airways Companion Voucher. If you have a use in mind and a means of getting there, there are few more valuable credit card benefits out there.
