There’s one thing that can often make a frequent flyer and AvGeek like myself get that warm and fuzzy feeling without fail. That is a well-executed airline TV advert. I’ve been a huge fan of emotive airline advertising for as long as I can remember and previously shared a round-up of the best airline adverts of all time.

British Airways is back on Thursday with a new TV advert, centred around the concept that “We all have something that makes us fly.”

The advert kicks off with BA 777 Captain Helen Wetton waking up in bed, not the usual setting we would expect to see a BA captain, whilst announcing into her pillow “Good morning, this is your Captain speaking.”

“I am tremendously proud to have been involved in creating this advert with British Airways,” Wetton said. “I played my own role as a female captain who springs out of bed and races to get to work. I am so excited to get back to doing what I love and flying our customers around the world again, when the time is right.”

The advert stars all of the airline’s own people and is soundtracked by Flower Duet from Delibes’ 19th Century opera “Lakme.” This composition has become very closely associated with British Airways for decades and is still used as BA’s boarding music.

If you’re eager to catch the advert in all its transmission glory, the first airing will be during Gogglebox this Friday 7 May.
