Daisy the Squirrel has a passionate advocate.
The unlikely “baby” of a recent Frontier Airlines customer made headlines this week after her owner, Cindy Torok, was asked to leave the aircraft, as Frontier does not permit rodents on board. Torok refused, resulting in a nearly two-hour delay, which ended in all of the passengers being forced to deplane, and Torok infamously being wheeled away from the gate in a wheelchair.
Now Torok is speaking out, saying, “I’m going for blood. I’m going all the way. I’m contacting an attorney.”
Torok, who owns other exotic pets including lizards and bearded dragons, told FOX8 she acquired the 11-week-old squirrel three weeks ago to help with her anxiety in crowds. Torok also had a doctor’s note as well as a letter from the Americans with Disabilities Act National Network documenting her need, and Torok’s daughter notified the airline that she would be bringing an emotional support animal on board.
However, Frontier Airlines stated that Torok never disclosed that the animal in question was a young squirrel, which is classified as a rodent. Torok eventually was escorted off the plane by five airport police, and left Daisy at home under the care of her other daughter.
Torok said her daughter was reimbursed for the cost of the plane ticket, while Frontier offered her a voucher for a later flight. Torok arrived in Cleveland on Wednesday morning.
Torok told FOX8, “I was treated very poorly. I was called a liar by one of the stewardesses. They said, ‘Either you walk off the plane or I’m going to arrest you for trespassing, and we will take that squirrel,'” Torok said. “I said, ‘You’re not taking my squirrel. Sorry, you’re not. I refuse. You will not take my baby from me.'”
