You can find just about anything you could ever want in New York City. But when you go beyond the $1 pizza slices and skip the tourist hotspots, you can discover cultures, languages, food and shops that will make you ask yourself, “Is this New York?”

We want to highlight that question in a video series where we’ll show you unique places and restaurants you can visit to experience the various cultures making up NYC.

Airbnb Experiences are a great way to explore the city and learn from locals. We signed up for a Sumi-e class at RESOBOX, a Japanese Cultural Center in Queens, through Airbnb Experiences to learn the basics. RESOBOX has three locations: Long Island City, Chelsea and the East Village. You can sign up for a calligraphy class through Airbnb or on their website.
