Greetings from the world’s largest (and second-ever) United Polaris Lounge, at San Francisco International Airport (SFO)! I’m taking an early look at the airline’s latest biz-class hangout, which opens to flyers this coming Monday, April 30.
I’ll be sharing more from the SFO Polaris Lounge over the next few days, but in addition to confirming stats for this latest location (492 power outlets?!), the airline provided an updated timeline for its Houston (IAH), Los Angeles (LAX) and Newark (EWR) lounges.
The United Polaris lounge at Newark Liberty International Airport is expected to open by early June, the lounge at George Bush Intercontinental in Houston this summer and the lounge at Los Angeles International Airport this fall.
As a New Yorker, I’m most excited about the Newark lounge, of course, given that the biz-class situation there has been far from ideal for as long as I can remember. EWR’s United Clubs are so overcrowded that I’ve been skipping them entirely, choosing to chill at Classified, instead.
The new Polaris Lounge will be a huge boost when it comes to pre-flight comfort, for those eligible for access, and should help reduce overcrowding at the United Clubs as well.
As a reminder, Polaris Lounge access is restricted to passengers traveling in one of the following cabins:
- United Polaris first class
- United Polaris business class
- Star Alliance long-haul first class
- Star Alliance long-haul business class
First-class passengers may also bring a guest, but access is restricted to long-haul intercontinental travel — if you’re flying between the US and Canada, Mexico, Central America or the Caribbean, you won’t have access, unfortunately.
