Virgin Atlantic premium passengers get a lounge downgrade as Heathrow Clubhouse remains closed

Since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, Virgin Atlantic’s prized Clubhouse lounge in Heathrow has remained closed. But what about passengers who are typically entitled to lounge access when flying with the carrier? Virgin Atlantic has had to improvise.
When it reopens on 20 August, the dedicated lounge at Heathrow for Virgin Atlantic will be the Plaza Premium Lounge in Terminal 2. Virgin passengers who are flying in Upper Class or with Flying Club Gold status, as well as eligible partners, will have access to the lounge.

In April, London Heathrow Airport decided to consolidate operations by closing two terminals — 3 and 4. Until such a time when Terminal 3 reopens, Virgin’s premium passengers will continue to not have access to the coveted Clubhouse lounge.
Premium Virgin Atlantic passengers currently have access to the Lufthansa Lounge in Terminal 2, but this will change to the Plaza Premium lounge as of 20 August. This will be a considerable downgrade for passengers who are used to the spa, pool table, excellent dining and rooftop terrace of the Clubhouse. The lounge, which has no natural light, is also a Priority Pass lounge, and in pre-COVID times was known for often being overcrowded and stuffy.
“We apologise for any disappointment caused to our customers, however we are delighted to offer our Upper Class, Gold Flying Club members and eligible partners to the Plaza Premium Lounge and the Plaza Premium Arrivals in Terminal 2”, a spokesperson for the airline told TPG.
Virgin’s plans to get passengers flying again are well underway, with a total of 19 long-haul routes expected to be reinstated by October.
